Making a game using '2Do It Yourself'
Today we were asked to make a game using the software 2Do It Yourself. This software and really basic and easy to use. You start by picking the type of game you want to make, such as mazes, levels or snake. There are then a few videos to talk you through what to do at each step, which is really handed.
I got to design my own character, background and rules.
We were asked to make a game that was Educational in some way, so I chose a game about recycling. The Environment is a topic I have recently been studying in my Science and Creative Learning seminars so it was fresh on my mind. I made a compost bin to be the object that moves and collects things. Then I made a couple of different items, some that should be put in to compost bins (bananas) and some that cannot be put in compost bins (empty bottles).
For one minute all these objects fall randomly to the bottom at different speeds. The aim of the game is to catch the items that should be put into compost bins and avoid the ones that should not. By catching the right items, the player will get points (different for each item). However, every time they catch something they should have missed they will have points deducted.
I chose this topic for my game as recycling is very important and is becoming very serious. I think that it is important that children realise the benefits of recycling, and what can happen if everyone decided not to bother.
